The Moto3 German GP provided some scorching action on Sunday, amidst typical summer conditions at the Sachsenring. Estrella Galicia 0,0 riders Aron Canet and Alonso Lopez took on the challenge of the final race before the mid-season break.
Aron Canet had clocked the fourth best time in the warmup in the morning. At the start of the race he stuck in the Top 10, and on the following laps he kept up the pace at the front in a tight group of nine riders. However, an incident between two riders allowed the first five to escape, with Canet trying to keep from losing contact and setting the fastest lap of the race to catch them again. Halfway through the contest, the group was composed of around twenty riders and, with five laps to go, the frontrunners began to break up again while Canet maintained the pace, finishing in fifth place at the chequered flag. With the result, he ascends two places to third in the overall standings, with 92 points.
Alonso Lopez was twenty-fourth in the warm-up, and gained several positions at the start of the race itself, slotting into fifteenth after the first lap and eleventh after lap two, at the front of the second group. Shortly after, he lost positions due to contact with another driver, dropping to seventeenth. Not giving up, Lopez continued to recover ground to reach twelfth place with less than ten laps remaining. Unfortunately, he could not avoid a collision with Enea Bastianini later on, with both crashing and Lopez left out of the race. Alonso is now 16th in the World Championship with 31 points.
The next Moto3 World Championship race will be held on August 5th in the Czech Republic, at Brno.
EMILIO ALZAMORA – Today we saw a classic Moto3 race
Aron Canet managed to launch himself after the riders who wanted to escape, but at the end of the race he was not able to fight for the podium. Today we saw a classic Moto3 race, with a big group full of overtaking and mixed fortunes for the riders. The result is positive in any case, as Aron is now third in the championship again.
Alonso Lopez also had a great race, at a circuit he didnt know before. He lost positions due to an unexpected incident, but was able to recover the lost ground. In the end, a crash left him out of the race, which is a pity, but even so he showed a great adaptation to a track where he was riding for the first time. Luckily, now we have a few days where you can rest and get back to Brno.
ARÓN CANET – I would have liked to have achieved a much better result
“I think we could have done better than fifth position. I had a better pace than several of my rivals, but it was very difficult to overtake them on the straight. There were several touches with other riders during the race, and I was a little far back so overtaking them again was very tough. I could only recover a few metres on the brakes, but not overtake. I would have liked to have achieved a much better result in the race.
ALONSO LÓPEZ – We were overtaking each other everywhere
Its a shame that with the crash all the great work we had done this weekend at an unfamiliar track went to waste. In the race I started better than I expected and I managed to keep gaining places, but it was very difficult to maintain the position because we were overtaking each other everywhere. In the end I had contact with another rider and in the crash I dislocated my right shoulder -and I also hit my left ankle hard. I hope to recover soon and try again to the fullest at Brno.
