The Estrella Galicia 0,0 Moto3 riders contested the latest race of the 2019 season on Sunday, after a warmup session held on a wet track due to overnight rain -which also lowered the temperature from previous days.
Alonso Lopez crashed out of the race on the opening lap, after a collision with another rider. The Spaniard suffered a dislocated right shoulder in the incident. Sergio Garcia Dols finished the 27-lap contest, won by Lorenzo Dalla Porta, in eleventh place.
The riders have a few weeks’ holiday following the German GP, before the second half of the season gets underway on August 2nd with the Czech Republic GP at Brno.
ALONSO LÓPEZ
After clocking a 1:36.342 lap to go 14th fastest in the morning warmup, Alonso Lopez started from 11th on the grid thanks to some brilliant practice sessions and a Q2 time of 1:26.854.
Confident about his good pace, at the start of the race the Spaniard was among the frontrunners. Unfortunately, during the first lap he was unable to avoid contact with another rider, after which he suffered a crash that left him out of the contest and with a dislocated right shoulder.
Lopez is now 19th in the Moto3 World Championship with 33 points.
SERGIO GARCÍA – “I’m very happy because we scored points again”
Having got into Q2 for a fifth consecutive race, Sergio Garcia Dols was unable to clock an official time in the session on Saturday after crashing before completing his first lap. Set to start eighteenth on the grid as a result, in the warmup on Sunday morning he rode the 28th fastest time with a 1:39.143.
The rookie went out onto the grid with his right shoulder bandaged. Off the start he maintained his position, although he was stuck at the back of a large group at the head of the field.
In the final part of the race he recovered ground and moved up the order, finally crossing the line eleventh -barely a second off the race winner.
Garcia Dols occupies 23rd in the overall standings with 9 points.
“I’m very happy with this race because, although it was very tough, we scored points again. Alonso’s crash hurt us a lot. I had to go off the track and come back on cautiously, in order to clean my tyres. I started to fight back and move my way up after that. I’m very happy to have got more points. Now we can rest up, before getting back to working to the fullest when the season resumes.”
EMILIO ALZAMORA – “It was a shame because Alonso had worked very hard»
“It was a shame about the crash in in today’s race because Alonso and his crew had worked very hard throughout the weekend. He was very focused all the time and was looking for a good pace to make sure he was in the front group. He has been diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder, but fortunately there is no fracture, so he will have time to recover over the next few weeks and come back at full strength when he returns in August. We are very satisfied with Sergio’s race. He managed to gain places and finish in the points again, at a circuit where he had not ridden before.”
