  • The Barcelona team has assembled a powerful team of 15 members, including 2022 champions Iván Luis González (Mini-Rookie) and Eloi González (Senior).
  • “The progress demonstrated in 2022 allows us to think ambitiously for this year. We hope to fight for victories in the four divisions in which we compete and reach the last race of the season with title options in all of them,” says Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School.

Monlau Motul Karting Team launches this weekend the 2023 season of the Spanish Karting Championship (CEK) with a line-up of 15 drivers divided between the categories Mini, Junior, Senior and KZ. The excellent progression demonstrated in the last campaign, which saw the Barcelona team raise the Senior titles with Eloi González and Mini-Rookie under Iván Luis González, in addition to placing runners in the top five of the categories in which he competed, allows its leaders to be ambitious and think about being in the fight for victories and scepters. The challenge starts at the Kartcenter in Campillos, Malaga, stage of the first competition of the year.

The time has come to start the engines, and the Campillos meeting will arrive with never-before-seen expectation, as evidenced by the record registration of 166 participants in all divisions. Monlau Motul Karting Team will have a luxury lineup of fifteen representatives.

Iván Luis González (chassis Alonso Kart and number 4) tops the list of Monlau Motul Karting Team in the Mini category, the most crowded, with 41 karts in the official list. The best newcomer of the last campaign will now fight for the absolute scepter sharing colors and objectives with four other names: Benjamín Mañach (Alonso Kart #6), Álvaro Perelló (Alonso Kart #10), Beatriz Cardoso (Alonso Kart #15) and Rafael Simón (Kart Republic #15).

In Junior, of the 34 drivers who will take part in training, two will wear the colors of Monlau Motul Karting Team and a third will do so with assistance from the Barcelona team. Raúl Zunzarren (Birel ART #3), third place in the last campaign, will try the assault on the scepter with Miquel Blascos (Birel ART #14). Complete the formation Nicolás García (OTK #22), which will receive the assistance of Monlau although figure registered under the umbrella of the Andalusian Federation of Motorsports.

Monlau Motul will line up three riders in the Senior category, which has 36 names on the opening list. Eloi González, champion in 2022, will defend the title with the number 1 in the fairings of his Redspeed. The Catalan will share structure with Francisco Cardoso (Gillard #17) and Mateo Rubio (Gillard #30).

The KZ specialty, reserved for karts with gear changes, is the second with the most entries in Campillos, a total of 40. Four of them will shoot in the colours of Monlau Motul Karting Team: Josep Vea (Birel ART-TM #3), Aleix Bueno (Birel ART-TM #28), Arnau Ràfols (Birel ART-TM #30) and Daniel Vasile (Birel ART-TM #39).

Apart from their individual challenges, many of these 15 drivers will seek in the CEK to refine their sports training. This objective is also shared by its support team, which as usual will integrate professionals and students of Monlau. In each of the four events of the event, Monlau Motul Karting Team will displace a team manager, a team coordinator, two coaches, two data engineers and 15 mechanics, some of them former students of the Barcelona school.

Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School, said: “The performance demonstrated in 2022, where we achieved two titles and placed drivers among the top five in the final standings of the categories we played, allows us to be ambitious for this season. We hope to fight for the victories in the four divisions in which we will compete and reach the last round of the season with title options in all of them”.

The first round will start this Friday in the 1,588 meters of the Andalusian Campillos Kartcenter. The first day of the Malaga race will be dedicated to the free training sleeves. On Saturday the timed and qualifying heats will arrive, and on Sunday the coveted final races will take place, two per category.
