Monlau Motul Technical School had a resounding success in TCR Europe. After an exciting and demanding season, Franco Girolami was crowned champion and has taken his second continental title. The performance of the driver from Isla Verde (Argentina) was impressive throughout the year, in which he won a total of four races, had seven podium appearances, achieved three pole positions and scored points in all the races contested. The Barcelona team, for its part, finished in second position in the team classification.
The Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia was the scene of the last meeting of the 2024 season, where Monlau Motul, with its two CUPRA León VZ TCR units, was the main protagonist. Girolami achieved a victory, while his teammate, Viktor Davidovski, took a creditable third place on the podium, thus closing an excellent weekend for the team.
Girolami arrived at the Valencian event with a five-point lead over his main rival, Aurélien Comte, with a great chance of taking top honours. The action on track started on Saturday with the two qualifying sessions, where the Argentinean driver set the second best time (1:40.679), less than a tenth of a second behind the poleman . Davidovski was tenth with a time of 1:41.408, which allowed him to start from pole position in the second race thanks to the reverse grid.
On Saturday afternoon it was the turn of the first race, in which the Argentinean took control from the start and maintained the lead until the end of the race to take a very important victory that brought him even closer to the title. As for Davidovski, he crossed the finish line in ninth position.
On Sunday the moment of truth arrived with the last race of the season. Girolami started ninth and, after a very good management on the track, saw the checkered flag in sixth place, enough to be crowned the brand new 2024 TCR Europe champion. Viktor Davidovski concluded the final round with a third place, his first appearance on the podium, and confirmed the good pace of the CUPRA León VZ TCR.
David Simón , Team Manager of Monlau Motul was very satisfied with the team’s performance: “Without a doubt, Franco has done an exceptional job throughout the year, he has given us his experience and talent, so we can only congratulate him on this well-deserved title. Viktor was very competitive and achieved a podium. Thanks to him, this project has been possible. Now it’s time to celebrate and go for more in the TCR Spain.”
Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul, made a positive assessment of the year:“We are very happy and grateful to the whole team. The result is the fruit of the collective effort of the drivers, the technical staff and the unconditional support of CUPRA. In addition, the TCR Spain drivers have contributed to the development of the car, so there are many people who have made this championship possible.”
In this way, Monlau Motul extends its successes in the TCR, in which it dominated last season in Spain, and demonstrates, once again, that it has a very talented team of drivers, technicians and engineers who are made up of, among others, former students, trainees and teachers of both mechanics and the Master of Motorsport Engineering at Monlau Motul Technical School.
