Monlau Motul faces the 2025 TCR Spain season with the ambition of revalidating the title

  • Éric Gené, Érik Zabala, and Jenson Brickley will defend the team’s colors in the championship at the wheel of two CUPRA León VZ TCRs.
  • After winning the team title twice, the Barcelona-based team begins its third season in the national championship this weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
  • The drivers are at a high level; Gené and Zabala have demonstrated this every time they’ve ridden in the Monlau Motul car, and Jenson will strengthen our lineup. I think we’ve formed a very competitive team,”  said David Simón, Monlau Motul team manager.
  • “We’re very excited to face our third consecutive season in TCR Spain and to continue competing alongside CUPRA. The championship continues to grow, and our goal is to retain the team title and fight for the driver title,” said Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul.

Monlau Motul Technical School returns to the TCR Spain after a 2024 season in which it was crowned team champion for the second consecutive time and fought to retain the overall drivers’ title (won in 2023) until the final round. The Barcelona-based team faces its third year in the championship with a clear objective: to remain a benchmark in the series and fight for both crowns. The action will kick off this coming weekend (March 14-16) at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where Monlau Motul will be fighting for a podium finish.

The racing mechanics and engineering school will once again field three CUPRA León VZ TCR cars, which will be driven by three young talents: Érik Zabala , Èric Gené and Jenson Brickley . Zabala, from Lodosa, Navarra, will face his third season in the TCR Spain with the team. After winning the TCR Cup title on his debut in 2023, he made a step up in 2024 and fought for the top spots in the full category, ultimately finishing third. For Èric Gené, the youngest member of the team at just 18 years old, this will be his second season in the series after a 2024 campaign in which he stood out with two podiums and two pole positions . In addition, the Barcelona native competed in a TCR Europe round and represented Spain at the FIA Motorsport Games, further cementing his position as a driver with significant potential in touring cars.

The big news in the team’s lineup is Jenson Brickley, a 20-year-old British driver who joins the Monlau Motul ranks with a 2024 TCR Spain runner-up finish and the experience of having made his debut in the final round of last season’s TCR Europe championship.

The level of TCR Spain has grown in recent years, and in 2025, competitiveness promises to be even greater. Last season, it was clear that consistency is key in a championship with four races—this year with five—so Monlau Motul has prepared thoroughly to face the challenge with confidence. Preseason training has served to optimize the performance of the CUPRA León VZ TCRs and fine-tune every detail before the start of the competition.

As for the technical team, the three drivers will have a 16-person staff made up of the same engineers and mechanics as last season, reinforced by new additions from the racing mechanics school, to continue training young professionals and ensure the best possible performance in each race.

David Simón , Monlau Motul team manager, assesses the team’s potential:“We’re approaching this new season with great enthusiasm. The drivers are at a high level; Gené and Zabala have demonstrated this every time they’ve climbed into the Monlau Motul CUPRA, and Jenson will strengthen our lineup. I think we’ve built a very competitive team. Furthermore, the foundation of our car has proven to be very solid; it’s very reliable and has good pace. We developed an intensive testing program at the beginning of the year and we continue working on new improvements to ensure our drivers are behind the wheel of the best possible car.”

Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul, highlights the team’s aspirations: “We’re very excited about our third consecutive season in the TCR Spain and about continuing to compete alongside CUPRA. The championship continues to grow, and our goal is to retain the team title and fight for the driver title, but also to remain a benchmark in the development of young talent.” We continue to focus on a team that not only competes at the highest level, but also acts as a development platform for engineers and mechanics, offering a real gateway to professional motorsport.”

The opening round will be part of the Winter Series – 6 Hours of Barcelona. On Friday, the teams will complete a short test, while on Saturday there will be two free practice sessions and two qualifying sessions. Sunday will be the moment of truth with two races, lasting 25 minutes plus one lap each, which will conclude the first meeting of the year.
