Monlau Motul Karting Team surpasses the equator of the Spanish Karting Championship (CEK) with a remarkable harvest of results in karting Lucas Guerrero of Chiva, Valencia. The riders of the team drew a date marked by changing weather, with alternating presence of rain and sun throughout the weekend, and remain in the battle for the titles of the four main categories of the CEK after adding a partial victory and three more presences on the podium of the Sunday finals.
The best moments of the weekend for Monlau Motul Karting Team came in the small divisions. In Mini, the category with the most representation of the team’s drivers, the regularity of Iván Luis González stood out. Third in the accumulated official training and qualifying heats, González signed two very regular Sunday finals, in which he achieved two brilliant second places. These results place the Catalan in third place of the event, with 154 points, just 21 from the leader.
In this same category, Benjamin Mañach also chained two presences in the top 10 (8th and 5th) and is positioned as second force in the provisional classification, with 117 points. Completing the results of Monlau Motul Karting Team in Chiva Samuel Turner (12th and 15th), Álvaro Perelló (19th and 18th) and Rafael Simón, who could not see the checkered flag in any of the races. Amir Sabirov and Beatriz Cardoso stayed on the verge of qualifying for Sunday’s grills.
Excellent performance of the Barcelona team in the Junior division, where Marius Barry-Berg left his first flash of talent of the year. After signing a 5th grid in the accumulated sleeves and training, the Norwegian emerged with a frantic comeback to victory in the first Sunday race. Raul Zunzarren also recovered intensely, progressing from 14th place to 5th place. The Navarran completed his progression finishing on the second step of the podium in the second final, in which Barry-Berg qualified in a brilliant fourth place. In a championship key, Marius Barry-Berg rises to the provisional second place with 161 points, just 11 from the leader, and Zunzarren is third with 146, 26 points from the head. Complete the performance of Monlau Motul Karting Team in Junior Nicolás García (15th and 10th) and Miquel Blascos (22nd and 8th).
In Senior, Eloi González remains in the fight for the title after a weekend of less to more. After crossing the finish in 12th position in the morning final, in the afternoon he managed to recover the tone shown in training to achieve a fifth place that puts him in fourth place of the accumulated classification, with 145 points, just 34 less than the leader. In this division, Monlau Motul Karting Team also had the representation of Mateo Rubio (14th and 11th) and Portuguese Francisco Cardoso (21st and 18th).
In the KZ category, reserved for the most efficient karts and equipped with gear changes, Santiago Vallvé and Josep Vea stood out as the team’s highlights in both finals. Vallvé chained a 4th and 8th place in the two qualifying rounds, while Vea harvested a 5th and a 4th place that keep him in second place of the classification, just seven points from the leader. They completed the performance of pilots Monlau Motul Aleix Bueno (17th and 16th) and Arnau Ràfols (22nd and 18th).
At the end of the weekend, Rubén Simón, Team Manager of the Monlau Motul Karting Team, was satisfied: “The weather has made things very difficult, but, at the same time, it has helped us to continue growing as a team. Both on wet and dry asphalt our riders have shown speed and regularity in all categories, crediting good results and keeping intact the options to the title”.
The Spanish Karting Championship will celebrate its third and penultimate qualifying round on 24 and 25 June at Motorland Aragón.
