Monlau Motul retains the TCR Spain team title and takes third place in the drivers’ standings with Erik Zabala

  • The Murcia-born rider was the best in the second round held at JuniorGP™, on a day where Facundo Llambías also performed at a high level.
  • Jesús Torres, in eighth position, was the highest-ranked rider in the only round of the European Talent Cup contested.
  • “We have concluded a season that has been long and difficult, but in which the team has shown that it is up to the task in all circumstances. I congratulate all the drivers, students and technicians for the great effort made during so many intense months of work,”  says Jaime Serrano, CEO of the team.

The Estoril circuit (Portugal) was the scene of the last round of the FIM JuniorGP™, after the cancellation of the event initially scheduled in Valencia due to the serious effects of the floods. Thus, on a circuit that the riders had already visited last May, Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 said goodbye to the season with a hard-fought victory for  Máximo Quiles  in the second JuniorGP™ round.

In the first race, the Murcia-born rider was unable to fight for the podium due to a crash suffered in the initial stages after contact with a rival. A few laps later,  Casey O’Gorman  was also sidelined due to a mechanical problem.  Facundo Llambías was able to finish the race in the leading group, after climbing four positions from the start, finishing eighth.

In the second race, where the riders would complete the final laps of the championship, Quiles returned with an ambitious approach and remained in the pole positions from start to finish. With a cool head and without taking excessive risks, the Murcian rider took the lead at the start of the last lap, where he defended his position without any cracks.

An unbeatable way to end the season and add his first victory in the category and the fourth podium of the year. In the final tight laps, Quiles was accompanied by Llambías, who completed another great race and finished fifth. O’Gorman was not lucky and was unable to finish.

“Quiles’ victory is a perfect end to the year for the team, on a day where he once again showed his tremendous potential with perfect race management. It’s a shame about O’Gorman’s problems, especially in the second race, in which he was reaching the leading group. Llambías shone in both races, showing great speed and race management. A magnificent farewell for Facundo,”  explained  Max Moro , Team Leader Project.

With these results, Quiles finishes on the podium of the general classification with third position and 129 points. Very close to the top ten, O’Gorman is 11th with 76 and Llambías, 12th with 66.

The only race held in the European Talent Cup had it all, with permanent alternations of positions between the top ranked.  Enzo Bellon  and  Fernando Bujosa  were protagonists in that leading group for part of the race, although in the end the best ranked rider of the team was  Jesús Torres  with eighth position. Very close to Torres was Bellon in 10th position. Further back,  Marianos Nikolis  was 19th. Bujosa, who had taken the lead, was unable to finish the race, as was his teammate  Pau Alsina .

Max Moro  highlighted the “great work of Bujosa, which unfortunately was not compensated due to a mechanical setback on the bike. Despite a difficult start, Bellon had a good race and was in with a chance of a podium finish. Torres also fought to get to the front group and to get into good positions. It’s a shame about Nikolis and Alsina’s problems.”

The season ends with Torres as the best placed rider in the general classification with sixth position and a total of 75 points, while Bellon is 11th with 47 points. Meanwhile, Alsina is 13th with 42, Bujosa is 17th with 31 and tied on points with Nikolis, who is 18th.

“We have concluded a season that has been long and difficult, but where the team has shown that it is up to the task in all circumstances. The championship has eluded us, but in JuniorGP™ we have fought until the end. And in the ETC there has been a tremendous level throughout the year. I congratulate all the drivers, students and technicians for the great effort made during so many intense months of work”, says  Jaime Serrano , CEO of the team.

Once again, Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 closes a championship where it has proven to be one of the most powerful teams on the grid due to its quality and level of both the technical staff and the drivers. In this sense, the team says goodbye with a balance of 8 podiums achieved: four for Quiles (including the victory in this last race) and two for O’Gorman in JuniorGP™ and one for Torres and Bujosa in the ETC.
