- The graduation ceremony marked the end of a ten-month training period for 23 graduates, who are now ready to devote themselves to their great passion.
- The training combines theoretical knowledge with real practice on the circuit, as well as the final project, all directed by a top-level faculty of active teachers.
- “It is a master’s degree that allows you to have as teachers professionals who are currently working in competitions, and that means they have a lot of knowledge, as well as being very up-to-date,” says Marc Barcons, number one of the class.
At a ceremony held last Thursday, December 5 in Barcelona, Monlau Motul Technical School graduated its 15th class of the Master in Motorsport Engineering, which included 23 graduates. The last chapter of an intense ten-month training period, where the students acquired the necessary knowledge to enter the professional world of motorsport. Beyond the main protagonists and their families, the event included a representation of teachers, key to the national and international prestige that this training has acquired.
In total, more than 400 Master’s students have passed through the facilities of Monlau Motul Technical School to receive 350 hours of training that combines theoretical knowledge with an important practical part. The latter highlights, on the one hand, real practices on the circuit, where students must apply theoretical knowledge and be able to manage mechanics and drivers in the environment of a real event. On the other hand, a final project consisting of the creation of the management and analysis tools necessary to organize an event. An opportunity to apply all the theory acquired over the months and demonstrate their ability to connect it in a real environment.
The training is provided by a top-level teaching staff, who are also active professionals in the world of motorsport, which allows them to have constantly updated knowledge.
Passion and perseverance to go far
“It is key to have a roadmap with medium and long-term objectives. Nothing is immediate, and with perseverance and work you will achieve them. But, above all, be happy and enjoy the journey,” said Iban Ventura, general manager of the Monlau Group, to the newly graduated students.
The importance of attitude when it comes to dedicating oneself to this profession set the tone for the intervention of Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School: “The sum of human and technical qualities make the perfect engineer. The manager of a team, beyond professional qualities, looks for a good person, educated and respectful. And, above all, don’t lack passion. Without it there is no attitude or motivation.”
A passion that makes both students and teachers experience intense months of training where a close relationship is generated between both parties. “ The line we follow each year is similar, but we always try to improve thanks to the feedback we receive from students at the end of their studies. It is true that it is a demanding pace, but in the end you see how the result is very satisfactory,” says Gerard Gasulla, coordinator of the master’s degree and alumnus in 2022.
Motul scholarships, recognition of excellence
At the end of the graduation ceremony, the names of the three students who obtained the best academic record of this class were revealed and were awarded Motul scholarships. A grade that takes into account both the grades of the exams, the practicals and the final project as well as the attitude and values shown in class.
Alejandro Palacios from Burgos was awarded the third best score with 8.1, while Raúl López from Barcelona was just ahead with 8.2. The last award, for the best record, went to Marc Barcons from Barcelona, who got 8.3.
“I knew about the master’s degree since I was in high school, because I wanted to get into the world of motorsport and I had the studies at Monlau Motul Technical School as a reference. It’s a master’s degree that allows you to have professionals who are currently working in competitions as teachers, and that means they have a lot of knowledge, and are also very up-to-date,” says Barcons. Regarding obtaining the Motul scholarship for the best record, “at first it wasn’t my goal, but in the end I saw it as a challenge, especially when I saw the high level of my classmates.”
The scholarships are a reality thanks to the Monlau Motul partnership, where the renowned lubricant brand feels strongly identified with the values of the school: “At Motul we are grateful to be part of the studies and to share the same philosophy. It is exciting to see these really brilliant young students who, after finishing their studies, are going to face the challenges of motorsport,” says Saul Tagarro, general manager of Motul Ibérica.
The 15th class, in line with recent years, included students from many corners of the world. Specifically, from seven different countries: Spain, France, Romania, Mexico, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. In addition, there were seven Spanish provinces represented. This is a sign of the national and international recognition that the Master has earned within the world of motorsport, and which is already working to welcome its new students, at the beginning of 2025, with the same passion and enthusiasm as on the first day.
