Double victory for the Monlau Motul Karting Team at the CEK in Chiva

  • Sasha Miras dominated both finals in the Mini Rookie category of the Spanish Karting Championship, sharing a remarkable triple top spot with Leo Devahive and Thiago Huertas.
  • The Mini podium finishes were complemented by Eloi González’s two fifth-place finishes in KZ, and seven other Monlau Motul drivers among the top 10 in the two finals across all categories.
  • “We’re feeling somewhat happy because we’ve been competitive in all divisions, but this time we haven’t had the same fortune as in Campillos. All in all, the podium finishes and top-10 finishes should fill us with hope for the final round of the season,” emphasizes Rubén Simón, Team Manager of the Monlau Motul Karting Team.
  • “The balance is very positive. It was a difficult weekend, but we improved and achieved great results. Moments like Sunday’s motivate us even more to keep pushing,”  explains Jaime Serrano, CEO of the team. “The performance of the Mini drivers, and especially that of the rookies, with the powerful triple-team performance of Sasha, Leo, and Thiago in the first final, underscores our work as a breeding ground for future motorsport talent,” concludes Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School.

Monlau Motul Karting Team completed the penultimate round of the Spanish Karting Championship (CEK) at the Lucas Guerrero Kartódromo in Chiva, once again demonstrating the competitiveness of its 17 members, split between the Mini and Mini Rookie, Junior, Senior, and KZ categories. With the youngest Mini Rookies leading the list of winners, as evidenced by Sasha Miras’ double win and the podium finishes of Leo Devahive and Thiago Huertas (in the latter case twice), in addition to Nicolás García’s third place in the second Senior final, the remaining members accumulated nine top-ten finishes. The event was marked by the heat and high participation, with a total of 180 karts on track.

The Mini Rookie category was the most successful of the weekend for the team. The rookies pulled out all the stops, demonstrating their excellent form from Friday’s free practice sessions, timed practice, and Saturday’s heats. Sasha Miras was one of the event’s most notable names, setting the fastest time in practice and dominating the qualifying heats to take pole position despite his rookie status. He reinforced those positive feelings in the first final, where he managed to hold the lead for a few laps before losing the place and crossing the checkered flag in second place overall, first among the rookies. Miras shared the 100% Monlau Motul Karting Team rookie podium with his teammates Leo Devahive (2nd) and Thiago Huertas (3rd). The same feeling was almost mirrored in the afternoon race, which Miras once again dominated among the rookies, with Huertas again in third place. The team’s results were completed by Massimiliano Filonzi (10th and 31st), Alexander Kwong (21st and 16th), and Guillem Coll (18th and retirement).

The consistency of the Monlau Motul drivers was the hallmark of the Junior division, which brought together the team’s five regulars. David Miciuna and Iván González were the most consistent, finishing 4th and 7th on the grid, respectively, after Saturday’s session. On Sunday, the circuit was only able to hold one final (the second was canceled due to asphalt problems), and Monlau Motul Karting Team achieved two top-10 finishes: Miciuna 6th and González 9th. Also taking the checkered flag were Egor Ivanchenko (12th after making up 13 positions since the start), Álvaro Perelló (18th), and Tomas Tavares (19th).

Monlau Motul’s sixth podium finish of the weekend at Chiva came in the Senior category thanks to Nicolás García. The Andalusian driver started with a strong Saturday of on-track activity, finishing 3rd in timed practice and 5th at the end of the heats. In the finals, García secured an 8th place in the morning and took third in the second. Eugeni Yaskov was also present at the Valencian event, finishing the first race in 27th place and being forced to retire in the second.

The team also showed great competitiveness in the KZ, as evidenced by Eloi González. The 2024 Spanish Senior Champion continued his strong progress in the category, completing another event from strength to strength. Eleventh after the time trials, González recovered to seventh in the heats, preluding to a great Sunday where he achieved two magnificent fifth places. Also in the top 10 were Asier García and Berta Ràfols, 7th and 10th in Final 1, respectively, and Sete Veà, 10th in Final 2, after recovering 19 positions following his retirement in the morning final.

Rubén Simón , Team Manager of the Monlau Motul Karting Team, summed up the team’s weekend in Chiva with the following words: “We’re half-happy, because we’ve been competitive in all categories, but this time we haven’t had the luck and it wasn’t possible to repeat the good feeling we had last June in Campillos. All in all, we’re left with the satisfaction of our podium finishes and top-10 finishes, which should fill us with enthusiasm and a desire to improve for the last round of the season.”

Monlau Motul CEO Jaime Serrano emphasized the importance of the young drivers: “The performance of the Mini drivers, and especially that of the rookies, with the powerful triple win of Sasha, Leo, and Thiago in the Final 1, makes us especially happy because it underlines the team’s work as a breeding ground for future motorsport talent.”

The CEK will conclude on September 20 and 21 at the Zuera karting track in Aragon.
