Aron Canet finished an intense preseason at the track, and was one of the standout riders on each day of testing. Thus far in 2018 he has earned two podiums and an eighth place, putting the 18 year old second in the overall standings. Last year at Jerez, Canet took his first ever victory in the Moto3 World Championship.
In his first year in the World Championship, Alonso Lopez is motivated for the opening European round of the season. He has prior experience of Jerez from his time in other series with the Monlau Repsol Technical School – Estrella Galicia 0,0 – Marc VDS project, such as the RFME Spanish Championship and the FIM CEV Repsol. It is the first track this campaign at which he has ridden before.
The Estrella Galicia 0,0 Moto3 team will also run Jeremy Alcoba as a wildcard at the Spanish GP. The 16-year-old, from Tortosa (Tarragona), currently competes in the Moto3 Junior World Championship in the FIM CEV Repsol with the Junior Team Estrella Galicia 0,0. In 2017 he was a teammate of Alonso Lopez in the Moto3 Junior World Championship, finishing fifth overall. Alcoba will seek to accumulate valuable experience to aid his quest for the FIM CEV Repsol title.
Moto3 action at Jerez begins on Friday at 9:00am with the first Free Practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix. The race is scheduled for Sunday at 11:00am.
The Wildcard Work Experience Program
The Spanish GP is always a special occasion, and Alcoba will not be the only guest for the team. Three students from Monlau Repsol Technical School will participate in a pioneering initiative in the World Championship, called “The Wildcard Work Experience Program.” Two final-year students on the Motorcycle Racing Mechanics course, and one from the Masters in Competition Engineering course, will work under the tutelage of the Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 engineers and mechanics.
