Monlau Motul bids farewell to the Eurocup-4 Spanish Winter Championship with its sights set on Spanish F4

  • Lorenzo Campos achieves the team’s best result with a 16th position in the first race of the weekend in Navarra.
  • The rain affects the performance of the drivers, who face changing conditions that complicate the qualifying sessions.
  • The weather has made it difficult for the riders to maintain their pace and show their true potential. However, this championship is precisely the way to deal with these situations and make the most of them,”  says David Simón, team manager at Monlau Motul Technical School.
  • “This test was very difficult due to the track conditions, but it was an important learning experience. The mechanics, engineers and drivers faced challenges that will help them to be better prepared for the regular season,”  said Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul.

The Navarra Circuit hosted the third and final round of the Eurocup-4 Spanish Winter Championship (E4SWC), where Monlau Motul Technical School completed its preparation programme for the regular season of the Spanish F4. The rain was the main feature of the weekend, which complicated the task of the three drivers of the Barcelona team, who made a great effort to adapt to the changing conditions of the track. Despite the difficulties, they once again demonstrated their evolution and staged several comebacks. The technical team, both mechanics and engineers, worked tirelessly to fine-tune the cars.

On Friday, the Monlau Motul riders took advantage of the two test sessions to adapt to the newly remodelled 4.313-metre track. Saturday began with a difficult Q1, in which Lorenzo Campos was the team’s best placed rider with 25th position. In the first race, held in the rain and with a start behind the safety car, the young Angolan advanced to 16th place, while Francisco Monarca and Alexander Jacoby crossed the finish line in 22nd and 28th position, respectively. In the sprint race, which also started with the  safety car  and had multiple interruptions, Campos finished 25th and Jacoby 27th, while Monarca went off the track and was out of the race.

Sunday started with a chaotic second qualifying session due to uncertain weather conditions. Some teams opted for dry tyres, but the best laps were set on wet tyres. Campos set the 14th fastest time and, due to penalties imposed on other drivers, started from 12th position in the third race, the only one of the weekend to be held in dry conditions. However, at the start he lost many positions and had to fight at the back of the pack to finish 24th. Monarca staged a great comeback from 30th to 17th, while Jacoby also completed a good heat, moving from 26th to 19th.

David Simón , team manager at Monlau Motul Technical School, analysed the last round of the E4SWC:  “The weather has been a key factor that has affected the performance of our riders. Between rain, humidity, wind, dry and wet track, we have had to constantly adapt. This has made it difficult for the riders to keep up the pace and show their true potential. However, this championship serves precisely to experience these situations and make the most of them. Although we had some setbacks, we continue learning and evolving.”

Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul, highlighted the team’s work:  “This weekend has been very difficult due to the track conditions, but it has been an important learning experience. The mechanics, engineers and drivers have faced challenges that will help them to be better prepared for the regular season. We are seeing progress in each race and we are confident that this work will bring us closer to the results we are looking for.”

With this event, Monlau Motul Technical School concludes its participation in the Eurocup-4 Spanish Winter Championship, a winter series that has helped the team to continue developing and preparing for the regular season of the Spanish F4, which will begin the last weekend of March at MotorLand Aragón.
