Monlau Motul Karting Team debuts at CEK with two wins

  • Sete Veà, with a victory in the second KZ category final, and a double in the first Mini Rookie race for Sasha Miras and Thiago Huertas, were the best results of the opening weekend of the Spanish Karting Championship at Motorland for the Barcelona team.
  • A total of 17 drivers make up the first Monlau Motul line-up, distributed as follows: Mini Rookie (6), Junior (5), KZ (4) and Senior (2).
  • “We’re leaving with the satisfaction of two victories, one of them a double podium finish, but also with the consistency we’ve demonstrated in all categories,” says Rubén Simón, Team Manager of the Monlau Motul Karting Team.
  • “In 2025, we have a very young team that will grow significantly from event to event. The potential is huge,” explains Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School.

Monlau Motul Karting Team closed out the opening round of the Spanish Karting Championship (CEK), held last weekend at Motorland Aragón, with a victory in the KZ Final 2 at Sete Veà and a double in the Mini Rookie at the opening round for Sasha Miras and Thiago Huertas, in addition to notable top-10 finishes. With a record-breaking entry of 186 participants, the team’s 17 drivers completed the event with very good feelings and evidence of significant growth potential for the upcoming events.

The fast and demanding Motorland Aragón circuit welcomed the CEK with spring-like weather and a very compact schedule, given the high number of entrants. The division with the most drivers from Monlau Motul was the Mini Rookie, a veritable treasure trove of future karting talent. All of them were protagonists of a very consistent Saturday following the qualifying sessions and qualifying heats, with a good portion of the team finishing close to the top 10 overall, with the rookies leading their own standings. On Sunday, many of them made significant strides forward, such as Massimiliano Filonzi, who climbed 12 positions to cross the finish line in 5th overall, which he combined with a 26th in the following final. Particularly noteworthy, however, was the one-two finish among the rookies in the first final by Sasha Miras and Thiago Huertas, who combined with a 4th and 5th place in the afternoon race. Rafael Simón also shone, finishing 6th in Final 2 after finishing 14th in the morning. Guillem Coll (29th and 32nd) and Alexander Kwong (19th and 12th) completed the list of results.

The second source of satisfaction for Monlau Motul Karting Team at Motorland Aragón came from the premier category, KZ, which had four representatives from the team among the 41 entrants. Sete Veà was the best Monlau Motul driver after Saturday’s races, achieving a 4th position on the grid for the first final, closely flanked by Berta Ràfols, 6th, and rookies Eloi González, 10th, and Asier García, 16th. Sunday’s races showed a clear contrast between veterans and rookies, which demonstrates the difficulty of adapting to this specialty. Veà reaffirmed his candidacy for the title by combining a fourth place in the first final with a hard-fought victory in the second. Berta Ràfols was also very consistent, achieving two top-10 finishes, a 7th and 9th place respectively. However, the rookies struggled to make progress in the pack, with Asier García having to settle for 24th and 21st places, and Eloi González 16th in the second final, after retiring from the first.

The learning curve will also be important for the team’s five Junior drivers, most of whom are debuting in this division. The standout performer in the first event of the season was Egor Ivanchenko, who delivered a progressive performance. After finishing ninth on the grid at the end of qualifying on Saturday, he rounded off the weekend on Sunday with two solid finishes of sixth and fifth. Monlau Motul’s top 10 finishes were not the only ones achieved by Iván González (9th in the second race after a 13th in the morning), Portuguese rider Tomas Tavares (8th in the first race and 19th in the second), and Álvaro Perelló (9th in the final race and 15th in the second). David Miciuna (21st and 24th) completed the list of results.

Finally, the two Monlau Motul Karting Team representatives in the Senior category, Mateo Rubio and Aimar Sancho, had a weekend of difficult adaptation against a very close and demanding field. This was clear in Sunday’s races, which saw Rubio finish 16th and 17th, and Sancho 26th and 29th.

Rubén Simón , Team Manager of the Monlau Motul Karting Team, gave his assessment of the team’s debut meeting at the CEK: “We’re satisfied with Sete’s wins and Sasha and Thiago’s one-two finishes in the Mini Rookie, but also with the consistency we’ve shown in all categories. It’s going to be a very close championship, judging by the results at Motorland, so scoring every point will be vital to staying in the fight for all categories. We showed speed in time trials, but it took us a while to consolidate our results. This is where our goal of improving for the next race lies.”

Potential was one of the keys provided by Monlau Motul CEO Jaime Serrano in his weekend assessment: “In 2025, we have a very young team that will grow significantly from event to event. Potential is very important, and the work between races will be key to continuing this path of improvement.”

The next commitment for the Monlau Motul Karting Team will come on May 2 and 3 with the second round of the Valencian Community Karting Championship in La Ribera. CEK will return to activity on June 13, 14, and 15 for the event that will mark the halfway point of the championship, scheduled for Campillos.
