Estrella Galicia 0,0 Moto3 riders Sergio Garcia Dols and Ryusei Yamanaka finally made their return to action this Wednesday at the Circuito de Jerez – Angel Nieto, as part of an official test ahead of the rescheduled 2020 Spanish Grand Prix that takes place this weekend.
Both Garcia Dols (23rd fastest overall) and rookie teammate Yamanaka (16th) made the most of their available track time, divided into two sessions and following the usual schedule for Friday practice.
The Moto3 class will be back on track on Friday at 9am, for the first Free Practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Sergio García Dols (23rd, 1:47.807, +1.544, 31 laps)
Garcia Dols worked on his setup and got reacclimatised to his bike on Wednesday, ending the morning session with a best time of 1:47.930. It was slower than the 1:45.205 he set when he was fifth fastest at the track during preseason.
In the afternoon session he continued his adaptation and lowered his lap times, despite the increase in track temperature. His final best time was a 1:47.807.
“This was a day of adaptation. The track has changed a lot since the last time we rode here at Jerez, so we had to adapt the bike and our riding to these new, hotter conditions. We started working on it and on Friday we will continue progressing in the first Free Practice for the Spanish Grand Prix. It’s been a very long few months and I am looking forward to the competition starting up again.”
Ryusei Yamanaka (16th, 1:47,325, +1,062, 35 laps)
Yamanaka made a positive start in the morning session, immediately moving into the Top 10 with a time of 1:47.325, just one second off the pacesetter.
Later in the day, track conditions prevented him from making improvements to his lap time, although he continued to adjust his setup and look for a good pace. His fastest afternoon lap was a 1:48.455.
“I am very happy to be back on track. I didn’t manage to ride at my best today, due to the hot conditions. We focused our work on finding the perfect setup, and that was precisely the purpose of this day. Now I hope to continue progressing in practice on Friday and resume the season smoothly. We are finally back to the circuits!”.
