- Casey O’Gorman, twice, and Rico Salmela took the podium in JuniorGP™ and reaffirmed their good form.
- Mateo Marulanda is 10th in the European Talent Cup, and Facundo Llambías finished 19th in Moto2™.
- “It was a very difficult, tough, and complex weekend for the entire team to manage, but the two podiums and the other good results were the best tribute we could pay to Pau Alsina and his family,” said Jaime Serrano, team CEO.
Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 maintained its love affair with the podium at the fourth round of the FIM JuniorGP™, held this past weekend at MotorLand Aragón. Irishman Casey O’Gorman and Finland’s Rico Salmela took the podium in a very special race, following the loss of young rider and team member Pau Alsina a few days ago. In this sense, on Saturday all the championship teams gathered at the Aragonese track to pay a heartfelt tribute to Pau.
Motivated by the need to achieve a good result to dedicate to their teammate, O’Gorman and Salmela completed a great first round in JuniorGP™, where they consistently found themselves in the top positions, and managed to take the podium in second and third place, respectively. Their teammate, Dodo Boggio, hampered by a right hand injury, was unable to finish the race.
In the second race, O’Gorman and Salmela once again performed at a high level with their Hondas, to the point that the Irish rider again finished second, further demonstrating the progress he has been showing in recent races. Salmela, meanwhile, was just two-tenths of a second off the podium in fourth place, earning her first race of the year outside the top three. Boggio overcame his physical problems and managed to finish in 11th place.
Thanks to the valuable points earned in Aragón, Salmela remains in second place in the overall standings with 97 points, followed by her teammate O’Gorman, who climbs to third with 80. Boggio is 19th with 9.
In the European Talent Cup (ETC), which was scheduled to be held only one race, Colombian rider Mateo Marulanda confirmed his week-on-week progress with a 10th place finish in a closely contested race. With this new Top 10 finish in his pocket, Marulanda climbs to 10th in the overall standings with 32 points.
In Moto2™, also with two races remaining, Uruguayan rider Facundo Llambías didn’t find the best feeling on the track. He finished 19th in the first race, while he couldn’t complete the second due to a mechanical problem. Llambías is 10th overall with 32 points.
“There’s no doubt that it’s been a very difficult, tough, and complex weekend to manage for everyone on the team following the loss of Pau Alsina. The two podiums, as well as the other strong results achieved in Aragón, were the best tribute we could pay to Pau and his family, and it speaks volumes for the incredible work of the riders and staff during these difficult days,” explains Jaime Serrano , team CEO.
With the Aragón round behind them, the FIM JuniorGP™ will take a few weeks off before returning to action again with the fifth round of the calendar. It will take place on September 21 in Emilia-Romagna (Italy), where the JuniorGP™ and ETC riders will compete in two rounds, while the Moto2™ riders will compete in one.
