Victory for Franco Girolami and Monlau Motul in the third round of the TCR Europe

  • Franco Girolami achieved  pole position  and victory in the first race at Salzburgring (Austria) and is second in the championship, just one point behind the leader.
  • Viktor Davidovski made an important comeback in the opening round and showed a very good pace at the wheel of the CUPRA León VZ TCR.
  • “We leave Austria with a slightly bittersweet feeling. We have dominated in both wet and dry conditions. We were the fastest car, but in the second race we were not able to complete a brilliant performance for the team,”  says David Simón, Team Manager of Monlau Motul.
  • “The work of the mechanics and engineers has been impeccable. We are halfway through the season and we will continue to strive and fine-tune every detail to be able to reach first place in the next rounds,”  says Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motorsport.

Monlau Motul once again demonstrated its potential and competitiveness in the third round of the TCR Europe season, held this past weekend at Salzburgring (Austria). Franco Girolami took  pole  and victory in the first race, and fought hard in a complicated second race, in which both he and his teammate, Viktor Davidovski, were involved in various incidents. The drivers of the Barcelona team were very fast at the wheel of the CUPRA León VZ TCR in changing weather conditions, a challenge that the entire team solved with great work.

The action began on Saturday with the two free practice sessions and qualifying, in which Girolami took  pole  in the rain with a time of 1:33.199 and Davidovski stopped the clock at 1:34.715 and was 11th. On Sunday morning the first race took place, on a wet track, in which the driver from Isla Verde (Argentina) had an impeccable start and a beautiful fight to end up winning. As for Davidovski, he had a very good start to place eighth and, after a  safety car,  he climbed to sixth position and was the best classified among the Diamond Trophy participants.

In the afternoon, it was the turn of the second race, with the grid inverted with respect to the result of the classification and with a drier track. At the beginning, Girolami recovered four positions and placed sixth, but, after a red flag, the Argentine had an off-track while he was fighting to gain another place and fell to 11th place with which he crossed the finish line. Viktor Davidovski, for his part, was tenth.

In this way, after the Austrian event, Franco Girolami is second in the championship, just one point behind the leader. In the team section, Monlau Motul also occupies second place, 36 points behind first.

David Simón, Team Manager of Monlau Motul, highlighted the good pace of the drivers and the car:  “We leave Austria with a slightly bittersweet feeling. We dominate in both wet and dry conditions. We were the fastest car, but in the second race Franco lost control of the car while trying to make an overtake and was unable to complete a brilliant performance for the team. Viktor Davidovski was very fast throughout the weekend, but the track conditions were very complicated, he could not qualify in the top ten and, despite this, he finished sixth in the first race.”

Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul, valued the effort of the entire team:  “We finished second in the championship, just one point behind first. The work of the mechanics and engineers has been impeccable and CUPRA has once again demonstrated its competitiveness on the track. Now we look towards the next test; We are halfway through the season and we will continue to strive and fine-tune every detail to be able to reach first place in the next rounds.”

The next stop of the TCR Europe will be from July 4 to 6 at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps World Cup circuit, in Belgium.
