- Adam Shepherd and Marco Butti achieve second and third position respectively in the first race, while Viktor Andersson finishes fifth.
- Butti is leading the championship with an 11-point advantage over the second-placed driver, and Andersson is fourth, 23 points behind his teammate.
- The Barcelona-based team occupies first position in the team standings with a 15-point advantage with one event remaining in the European competition.
- “On a very demanding weekend, the technical and mechanical work was key to being able to compete at the highest level and achieve a double podium finish,” highlights David Simón, team manager of Monlau Motul Technical School.
- “The results achieved and the leadership in the three championships we are competing for are a great reward for the work of the entire structure,” says Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul.
Monlau Motul Technical School leaves the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza as the leader of the 2026 TCR Europe standings in the drivers’, teams’, and Youth Trophy categories. The Barcelona-based team secured a double podium finish in the first race, with Adam Shepherd in second and Marco Butti in third. These results at the Italian circuit have put Butti in the lead of the overall standings, 11 points ahead of second place, while Viktor Andersson sits fourth, 23 points behind his teammate.
The weekend began with an additional challenge for Monlau Motul, as Monza was a new track for the team and its riders were carrying ballast due to their results in previous races. Butti started the weekend with an extra 40 kg and Andersson with 30 kg. From the first practice sessions, the extreme parity of the grid was evident, and this was also reflected in qualifying: the top 11 riders were separated by less than a second.
In qualifying, Butti was tenth with a time of 1:53.996, just 0.383 seconds off pole position . Shepherd qualified eleventh and Andersson twelfth. Butti’s qualifying result allowed him to start from pole position in the second race of the weekend, thanks to the reverse grid system.
The first race, held on Saturday afternoon, saw a remarkable comeback from the three Monlau Motul riders. Shepherd and Butti made a strong start, moving up to sixth and ninth respectively, while Andersson initially dropped to 15th. The Swede then began a steady climb through the field, eventually crossing the finish line in sixth place, which was later improved to fifth after a competitor received a penalty.
Up ahead, Shepherd and Butti also steadily climbed through the field to deliver outstanding performances. The Briton gained nine places to finish second, while the Italian moved up seven positions to claim third place on the podium, also finishing second in the Youth Trophy. Andersson, meanwhile, finished fourth in this category. The result earned Monlau Motul a significant points haul in a race marred by numerous incidents and retirements.
The second race, held on Sunday, began with Butti in first position, Shepherd in eleventh, and Andersson in twelfth. The Italian initially defended his lead, but later lost some places and finished fourth, second in the Youth Trophy. The race was affected by two safety car periods and ended with Andersson retiring due to a technical issue and Shepherd retiring after contact with another competitor on the last lap.
The result at Monza puts Monlau Motul at the top of both the riders’ and teams’ standings with just one race remaining. Butti leads the championship, while Andersson is fourth. In the Youth Trophy, Butti takes first place with an 18-point advantage over Andersson, who is second. In the teams’ standings, Monlau Motul also leads, with a 15-point advantage over its nearest rival.
David Simón , team manager of Monlau Motul, assessed the work done during a particularly demanding meeting: “It was a complicated weekend, with a new circuit, the burden of previous good results, and very strong competition. The work of the entire technical staff was fundamental in fine-tuning the setup and team operations. The double podium finish in the first race, along with Viktor’s fifth place and Marco’s fourth in the second, allows us to leave Monza strengthened in both the riders’ and teams’ championships.”
Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul, highlighted the team’s position with just one race remaining: “The results achieved and our lead in all three championships we’re competing for are a great reward for the work of the entire team. Our goal is to finish the season at home fighting for all three titles.”
The sixth and final round of the 2026 TCR Europe season will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya from October 23 to 25, where Monlau Motul will bring the 2026 European championship season to a close.
