- Viktor Andersson finished 11th in the first race of a weekend marked by the extreme equality of the competition.
- The Barcelona-based team used the Italian event to further develop its driver and its entire technical structure against some of the best teams in the world.
- “It was a very demanding event, conditioned from the beginning, but the team did a great job and we continue to accumulate experience in a top-level championship,” says David Simón, team manager of Monlau Motul Technical School.
- “Competing in the FIA TCR World Tour is a huge challenge for any team and, once again, the staff responded at a high level,” says Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul.
Monlau Motul Technical School completed its participation this past weekend in the first round of the 2026 FIA TCR World Tour, held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in Italy. The Barcelona-based team competed with Viktor Andersson at the wheel of the CUPRA León VZ TCR in one of the most competitive touring car championships on the international scene, characterized by extreme parity between teams and drivers. The Swede finished 11th in the first race, scoring 6 points.
The action began on Friday with two free practice sessions, during which the team worked intensively to adapt the car to the characteristics of the Italian circuit. A technical issue in the first session significantly limited Andersson’s track time, while in the second session the team focused on regaining confidence and further developing the CUPRA’s setup for qualifying.
With less track time than expected before Saturday’s qualifying , Andersson qualified 14th, less than a second off the fastest time, in an extremely tight grid.
In the first race of the weekend, held on Saturday afternoon over 15 laps, the Swedish rider put in a solid performance. After starting from 14th, Andersson steadily gained positions in a very close-knit group with numerous changes in position, crossing the finish line in 11th, just outside the top 10.
Sunday brought the second and final race of the weekend, also 15 laps. Andersson again started from 14th and was involved in several battles from the outset. While fighting for 12th place, contact with another competitor took him out of the race.
Beyond the results, Monlau Motul completed a weekend of great educational value for its entire technical and sporting staff on a highly demanding international stage. The Misano round allowed the team to continue gaining experience against fully professional teams and further develop both the Swedish driver and the group of engineers, mechanics, and students involved in the project.
David Simón , Monlau Motul’s team manager, reflected on their participation in Italy: “It was a very demanding weekend, and we were constrained from the start. The problem in the first free practice session significantly limited our track time before qualifying, and that makes a big difference in a championship as competitive as the TCR World Tour. Even so, in the first race we were able to climb back up the standings, and in the second, we were recovering ground again, but a collision took us out of the race. Beyond the results, the learning experience was very positive for the entire team, and we continue to gain experience in a top-level environment . ”
Jaime SerranoMonlau Motul CEO highlighted the work done by the entire team: “Competing in the FIA TCR World Tour is a huge challenge for any team, and once again, the staff responded at a very high level. This type of participation allows us to continue developing both our drivers and our engineers and mechanics against some of the best teams in the world. We come away with very positive conclusions and the certainty that we continue to grow as a team.”
Monlau Motul’s next stop will be next weekend at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, the venue for the second round of the TCR Europe season.
