Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 reaches the podium in the opening round of the FIM JuniorGP™ in Italy

  • At the Emilia-Romagna circuit, Casey O’Gorman was the driver of the team that came closest to finishing in JuniorGP™, with a fourth and fifth position in the two races held.
  • In the European Talent Cup, four new drivers debuted in Team Estrella Galicia 0,0, with seventh position for Marianos Nikolis as the best result.
  • The privileged positions have been resisted, but it has been a weekend of a lot of learning for our pilots and great work from everyone. We are convinced that the first podiums will arrive in Estoril ”, explains Jaime Serrano, CEO of the team.

Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 was close to stepping on the podium at the Emilia-Romagna circuit, scene of the first round of the FIM JuniorGP™. A weekend where six of the eight drivers made their debut with the team, and where they showed that there is talent to compete for very ambitious goals.

With two races scheduled for the JuniorGP™ category, Casey O’Gorman was the one who found the best sensations on the Italian track and was very close to the podium. The Irish driver was solid in both races and was always in the front positions, although he lacked luck to finish in the top three. In the first heat he finished in fourth position, while in the second he was fifth.

Facundo Llambías, in his third year in the category, made a great comeback in the first race and finished seventh after suffering a setback that had separated him from the front group. The Uruguayan pilot had less luck in the second race, where a fall in the first lap left him out of combat.

Among the debutants in the category was Máximo Quiles, current champion of the European Talent Cup, who proved to have adapted very well to the team. In the first race, the Murcian suffered a fall when he was setting the fastest lap and making up positions, after leaving the pit lane. A misfortune that could be made up for in the second race, where he always rode in front positions and scored his first points with a ninth position. The Frenchman Guillem Planques had two races of great consistency on a new circuit for him, where he fought in intermediate positions and managed to finish in 11th and 12th position.

With these results, the best positioned in the general classification is O’Gorman, fifth with 24 points.

In the European Talent Cup (ETC), the four available drivers of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0 made their debut with the team, after Enzo Bellon was out due to injury. A weekend where they showed enthusiasm and talent in the two races held.

The Australian Marianos Nikolis, from the Asia Talent Cup, completed a great debut and finished in eighth position in the first race, after staying in the chasing group and finishing just six tenths behind fourth place. He had less luck in the second race, where he suffered an early fall when he was fourth. His partner Jesús Torres was able to finish both races, although he was not without difficulties. In the first he rose to tenth position after completing a long lap and, in the second, he finished seventh after an intense duel with his rivals.

A similar context was experienced by Pau Alsina, who came back from the last positions to finish 16th in the first race. A similar scenario followed later, with a new comeback to the final eighth position. Despite a great start, his teammate Fernando Bujosa was unable to fight in the front group due to a fall that left him out of combat. The same outcome as in the second race.

After the first two races, Jesús Torres is the best placed driver in the general classification with eighth position and 15 points.

“ The privileged positions have been resisted, but it has been a weekend of learning for our drivers and great work by the entire team. We are convinced that the first podiums will arrive at the next event in Estoril. In JuniorGP™ we know that we have a lot of potential to always be at the front, as Casey demonstrated. The same as in the ETC, where all our drivers were able to add experience and learning for the next races ,” explains Jaime Serrano , CEO of the team.

For his part, Max Moro , Team Leader Project of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0, points to the ambition demonstrated by the drivers: “ O’Gorman showed a lot of solidity in both races, as did Llambías in the first. Quiles has adapted great to the category and will be ahead, while Planques was on the rise, adding his first points. In the ETC, Nikolis was magnificent, Torres and Alsina fought and overcame the setbacks. Too bad for Bujosa, who was unlucky in his debut .”

After the inaugural event, Team Estrella Galicia 0.0 prepares for the next stop on the calendar, next May 5 at the Estoril Circuit (Portugal). The JuniorGP™ drivers will compete in only one test, compared to two in the ETC.
