Monlau Motul Technical School faced the sixth and penultimate round of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship this past weekend at the Navarra Circuit, in an event marked by close competition and penalties for exceeding track limits. Fausto Arnaudo was the team’s standout performer, finishing ninth (sixth among rookies ) in the second race, a result that earned him one point. Despite the challenges, all four drivers from the team once again demonstrated their ability to compete in a highly competitive field.
Saturday’s first qualifying session once again highlighted the close competition that characterizes the category. Fausto Arnaudo set the team’s best time, a 1:47.139, 0.824 seconds off pole position , which placed him 14th. Miki Blascos was 15th (1:47.152), Juste Mulder 18th (1:47.225), and Rahim Alibhai 24th (1:47.567). With minimal margins between the drivers, starting positions proved crucial for races where making up ground would not be easy.
The first heat, held on Saturday morning, was marked by subsequent penalties. Juste Mulder initially crossed the finish line in 13th position, while Arnaudo was 20th and Alibhai finished 28th. However, track limits penalties altered the standings: the Dutchman dropped to 27th and the American to 29th, while the Argentinian climbed to 18th. Miki Blascos, meanwhile, finished 31st after receiving a ten-second penalty for contact with another competitor.
The second race on Saturday delivered one of the best performances of the weekend for Monlau Motul. After starting from the back of the grid, a red flag interrupted the race with Blascos running ninth, Mulder tenth, Arnaudo twelfth, and Alibhai twentieth. At the restart, the Argentinian rider seized his opportunity to climb to ninth position – sixth among the rookies – which he held until the checkered flag. Alibhai also completed a remarkable comeback to finish fifteenth, while Mulder crossed the finish line in seventeenth and Blascos in eighteenth.
Sunday’s session began with a second qualifying session in which Juste Mulder once again demonstrated his one-lap speed. The Dutchman stopped the clock at 1:46.688, placing him tenth, just 412 thousandths of a second off pole position . Blascos was 18th with a time of 1:47.139, closely followed by Arnaudo (21st, 1:47.341) and Alibhai (23rd, 1:47.367), another example of the small margins that characterize Spanish F4.
The third and final race of the weekend again demanded a significant effort from the Monlau Motul riders to gain positions. Arnaudo delivered a consistent performance to finish 12th, and Blascos initially crossed the finish line in 12th place. However, a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits relegated the Mallorcan rider to 14th. Alibhai staged another impressive comeback, advancing from 23rd on the grid to 16th, while Mulder finished 19th, although he later moved up to 18th in the final standings after a competitor’s penalty.
David Simón , team manager of Monlau Motul Technical School, assessed the weekend as follows: “Navarra is a particularly demanding circuit in terms of track limits, and penalties affected our results despite being in competitive positions. Fausto worked hard all weekend to score points and succeeded, while Rahim staged some great comebacks and overtakes. Juste once again demonstrated his talent, especially in qualifying, and Miki came close to scoring points. We must continue working to unlock the full potential of the team.”
For his part, Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul, highlighted the team’s effort in a highly competitive category: “The team has once again demonstrated that it can compete at the front, although small details made the difference. We will continue working to take a step forward in the final race of the championship and close the season with a good result.”
Monlau Motul Technical School will compete in the final round of the Spanish Formula 4 Championship at home, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, from November 6th to 8th, where the team will look to put the finishing touch on the season.
