Team Monlau Motul comes close to victory in the second round of the FIM MotoJunior™ World Championship

  • Travis Borg secures his second consecutive podium finish of the season in the Moto3™ Junior World Championship after finishing second at the Circuito do Estoril and moves up to third position in the overall standings, 18 points behind the leader.
  • Facundo Llambías achieves a solid fifth position in the second race of the Moto2™ European Championship.
  • “We are satisfied with the performance shown throughout the weekend. Travis had an incredible race and once again came very close to victory after fighting for it until the last lap,” highlights Eduardo Villodre, Team Manager of Team Monlau Motul.
  • “The team is working in a very positive direction. We once again demonstrated that we have the potential to fight for the top positions in several categories, and Travis’s result keeps us fully in the fight for the championship,” says Jaime Serrano, CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School.

Team Monlau Motul completed another positive weekend at the second round of the 2026 FIM MotoJunior™ World Championship, held at the Circuito do Estoril in Portugal. The Barcelona-based team once again demonstrated a high level of competitiveness, especially in the Moto3™ Junior World Championship, where Travis Borg came close to victory and secured his second consecutive podium finish of the season. With this result, the rider from Naxxar, Malta, climbs to third place in the overall championship standings, just 18 points behind the leader, making him one of the top contenders for the title.

From the first sessions on Friday, the team showed strong performance in Moto3™. Borg was fastest in the first free practice session and second in the second, while Kerman Tinez and Marianos Nikolis also impressed, finishing third and fourth respectively in the first session.

On Saturday, the Maltese rider again topped the practice session, confirming the great potential he had shown throughout the weekend. However, a yellow flag prevented him from improving his qualifying time, and he had to settle for eighth on the starting grid, 0.694 seconds off pole position . Tinez was ninth, while Nikolis finished 14th.

The only Moto3™ race once again saw Borg as one of the main protagonists. He made a great start and remained in the leading group from the outset, where he engaged in a spectacular battle for the win that was decided on the final lap after numerous overtakes among the main contenders. He ultimately crossed the finish line in second place, just 0.058 seconds behind the winner, and also set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:43.615.

Luck was not on the side of the other Moto3™ riders from Team Monlau Motul. Tinez again demonstrated strong pace throughout the weekend and was fighting to climb through the field when he crashed while running in 12th position. Nikolis also failed to finish the race, going down in the early stages after showing very competitive form from the start of the weekend.

In the Moto2™ European Championship, Facundo Llambías confirmed the significant progress he has made in recent weeks. The Uruguayan remained among the fastest riders in every session of the weekend and secured fifth place in qualifying, just 0.183 seconds off pole position .

The first race ended prematurely for Llambías, who crashed at the exit of the first corner after a great start from the second row of the grid. However, the Uruguayan recovered in the second race with a superb performance. After moving into fourth on the first lap, he climbed to third and remained in contention for a podium finish for much of the race. Tire wear in the second half of the race prevented him from keeping pace with the leaders, and he ultimately crossed the finish line in a commendable fifth place.

In the Moto4™ European Cup, Cesc Obiol and Nolann Macary failed to qualify for the races. Even so, the French rider showed promise in his return to competition after the injury that kept him out of the opening round, coming very close to securing direct entry into Q2.

“ We are satisfied with the performance shown throughout the weekend. Travis had an incredible race and once again came very close to victory after fighting for it until the last lap. It’s a shame that Kerman and Marianos couldn’t finish the race, because both showed from Friday that they had the speed to be at the front, and crashes prevented them from reflecting that in the final result. In Moto2™, Facundo showed great pace and was fighting for the podium in the second race. And in Moto4™ we continue working on the progression of our young riders ,” said Eduardo Villodre , Team Manager of Team Monlau Motul.

“ The team is working in a very positive direction. We once again demonstrated that we have the potential to fight for the top positions in several categories, and Travis’s result keeps us firmly in the fight for the Moto3™ championship. It’s also very important to see Facundo’s development and the progress of our younger riders. We will continue working to take another step forward at the next round ,” said Jaime Serrano , CEO of Monlau Motul Technical School.

The next stop for Team Monlau Motul in the 2026 FIM MotoJunior™ World Championship will take place from July 3-5 at the Circuito de Jerez-Ángel Nieto.
